Chapter 9 Web Search Terms

Web sites that support gene prediction are provided in the text and tables of this chapter. There are Web sites given in Tables 9.1 and 9.6 that provide links to currently available resources. Reasonably current lists of Web sites for gene recognition and splice site prediction with references and program availability are also available at http://linkage.rockefeller.edu/wli/gene/programs.html, http://hto-13.usc.edu/software/procrustes/index.html, and http://cmgm.stanford.edu/classes/genefind/.

A detailed list of programs for gene recognition is available (Burset and Guigó 1996). Performance comparisons are given at http://www1.imim.es/courses/SeqAnalysis/GeneIdentification/Evaluation.html and are usually described on the Web sites or in the references.

Since Web site URLs do vary over time as machine configurations change, using search engines with terms such as gene or promoter prediction or analysis, transcription factor–binding sites, regulatory sites, and any program name listed in the text or tables should produce the current Web address. Because there are so many resources available for gene analysis, the program names are not relisted here, but may be readily found in the tables, primarily Tables 9.1 and 9.6, or in PubMed or by using a Web search engine.
